What causes wrinkles?
As we age, cellular renewal slows down and our skin becomes increasingly thin and more fragile. The appearance of wrinkles is not just caused by ageing, it is also due to a reduction in skin elasticity and hydration. Indeed, you can even see wrinkles in young people. Wrinkles form where major muscular movements take place, requiring the skin to be especially supple. When our cellular metabolism slows down, the skin undergoes a deep change, which shows on the face with the appearance of deep wrinkles, loss of tone and elasticity. The first wrinkles are expression lines, caused by facial contractions which – when repeated – become ingrained in the underlying dermis, which is simultaneously losing its tone. With the loss and change in collagen and elastic fibres, tissues begin to sag, the skin loses its support and the contours of the face begin to change. What is collagen?
It is the most abundant structural protein found within the human body (accounting for 25% of the body’s protein content, by weight). It is produced in our body and provides suppleness and resistance to our organs and tissues. It makes up to 75% of our skin and when it is in short supply it shows in a lack of tone, a loss of elasticity and the appearance of wrinkles.
How many types of collagen exist within our bodies?
Mammals possess around 30 types of Collagen chain. Collagen type 1 represents around 90% of total collagen and is involved in making our main connective tissues, such as our skin, tendons, bones and cornea.
Is collagen also beneficial for joints?
There are many types of collagen in our bodies (over 30): collagen type 1 is mainly found in our skin, while collagen type 2 is found in our joints. The Collagen contained in Biocollagenina is type 1. Therefore, it is suitable for promoting the well-being and health of our skin.
But if Collagen is a protein, why can’t I use just any protein supplement to improve my skin?
Collagen has a highly distinctive amino acid composition: around a third of its residues are glycine, while a further 15-30% consist of proline and 4-hydroxyproline. These amino acids are found in very small quantities in food and protein supplements intended for other uses. Why should I use Biocollagenina instead of anti-ageing creams?
Our skin is made up of 2 layers, the dermis (the deepest layer) and the epidermis (the top layer). The dermis is the deepest layer of skin. It is made up of connective tissue, which is rich in the collagen fibres that provide the skin with its elasticity and resistance. The epidermis, on the other hand, is made up of cells called keratinocytes, which are arranged in 5 layers, each one featuring the same cells at different points in their life cycle. The epidermis is constantly renewing itself through a process of proliferation and differentiation that sees new cells, which are formed in the deepest layer, move upwards to the layers above until they are shed. The last layer is actually made up of dead keratinocytes. When you apply a cream to the epidermis, it is not able to deliver the nutrients to the innermost layers of the dermis. Nourishment actually gets to the cells in the deepest layers via the blood, as the cells are gradually pushed outwards, then die before being shed. That is why effective skin nourishment has to come from the blood – ultimately from our diet – and not just from cosmetic products used on the skin.
Why is Biocollagenina sold in bottles instead of tablets?
There are many reasons why we chose a bottle instead of tablets or capsules: – 5,000 mg of collagen is too great a quantity, being 10-20 times more than what can be used in a tablet or capsule. Tablets and capsules may appear to cost less, but the quantity of the nutrients they contain is undoubtedly lower, – our body find it easier to absorb liquids – it’s easier to ingest. Many people have problems with swallowing capsules or tablets.
How long do you have to use Biocollagenina before you see any results?
As with all products for external or internal use, whether they be natural or pharmaceutical, efficacy can vary, sometimes greatly, from one person to the next. In this case, the results you achieve will depend on your skin type, lifestyle, diet and general health. For example, excessive sun exposure will increase the time needed to achieve the desired results. An initial improvement in the skin can be achieved with just a few packs, in around 20 day. If you continue with the treatment, your skin may appear smoother and firmer after a month. We recommend an initial treatment course of 1-2 months, after which you can decide whether to continue or to alternate between one month of treatment and off periods.
Where is the Collagen that is used in Biocollagenina extracted from?
ESI S.p.A. uses hydrolysed marine Collagen extracted from fish skin. No other animal sources are used, such as pigs, cattle or poultry. The fish used come from strictly monitored fish farms and are guaranteed for human consumption.
Is the Collagen in my skin the same as the Collagen in Biocollagenina?
The Collagen in our body is an extremely large protein, made up of many amino acids linked together. It is so big that it would not be absorbed by the body if it were applied to the skin or ingested. That is why the Collagen used in Biocollagenina is hydrolysed, which means that it has been broken up into smaller molecules (peptides containing the amino acids needed to activate Collagen synthesis). These are easily digested, assimilated and carried to the deepest layers of the skin, where the production of new Collagen will be activated.
What is Hyaluronic Acid and what does it do in the skin?
Hyaluronic Acid is one of the main components of connective tissue. With age, its concentration within the skin falls, which leads to wrinkles.
Where does the Hyaluronic Acid come from?
The Hyaluronic Acid used in Biocollagenina, in the form of sodium hyaluronate, comes from a natural bacterial fermentation process.
What is Resveratrol?
A plant molecule, Resveratrol is often extracted from grape skins; indeed, it is the basis for many of the beneficial effects associated with drinking red wine.
Why does Biocollagenina contain antioxidants?
Cellular oxidation is one of the main causes of skin ageing. It leads to the formation of free radicals and contributes to the cellular degeneration of the skin. Cellular oxidation is generated by various external factors, including stress, UV rays and pollution. The process sees molecules become unstable due to the loss of an electron. This leads to a chain reaction that can have different consequences: the metabolism of skin cells changes and the epidermis does not regenerate properly, or does so more slowly. That is why Biocollagenina contains Bilberry, Vitamin C, Zinc and Copper, which provide an antioxidant effect and protect cells from oxidative stress.
Is Vitamin C beneficial for the skin?
In addition to the many bodily processes that it is involved in, Vitamin C also contributes to the formation of collagen, helping to keep the skin functioning normally. Moreover, thanks to its antioxidant properties, it also protects cells from oxidative stress.
What do Copper and Zinc do?
Copper helps to maintain normal connective tissues and Zinc helps in the maintenance of normal skin.
Can stomach acid inactivate the Collagen or the other components in Biocollagenina, making it ineffective?
This formulation has been designed to keep the properties of the ingredients intact and to ensure that the Collagen peptides keep their structure so that they can be absorbed quickly in the intestine and then carried to the dermis. In this regard, various studies have shown that some peptides found in hydrolysed Collagen – especially those contained in hydroxyproline – are able to cross the intestinal barrier, with the proline-hydroxyproline peptide appearing to be the most plentiful peptide in plasma.
What is the recommended dose and the best time of day to take the product?
We recommend 1 drink (30ml) per day. It is best to do this in the evening on an empty stomach, as this aids assimilation, while cell repair takes place at night.
Can I take Biocollagenina together with other food supplements?
There are no known interactions with other supplements. However, it is important that you consider the quantities of vitamins and minerals contained in various supplements and avoid exceeding your daily nutritional needs. In fact, NVR, Nutrient Reference Values, are given on the pack. If you have any doubts, please contact your doctor or a healthcare professional.
Can Biocollagenina be taken together with medication?
No interactions have ever been observed between medications due to the components contained in Biocollagenina. However, we recommend consulting your doctor before taking the product if you suffer from particular diseases and are on medication.
What flavour does the product have?
Biocollagenina is guava flavoured. The guava is a fruit typical to Central America with an extremely fragrant taste and distinct, appealing aroma.
If I take Biocollagenina for long periods will it make me put on weight?
Absolutely not. A Biocollagenina drink contains less than 0.5% sugars and fats, which is why it can be called sugar and fat free. Thus it cannot contribute to weight gain.
Can you use it when pregnant or breastfeeding?
Currently no clinical studies have been conducted on pregnant or lactating women, which is why we cannot recommend using this product in such circumstances.
Can you use it during the menopause?
It is not advised against during menopause. However, if you are on medication, we recommend consulting your doctor.
Can diabetics take Biocollagenina?
Our product contains Stevia, a natural sweetener with zero calories. Moreover, the product contains less than 0.5% sugar, which is why it can be called sugar free.
Does Biocollagenina cause any side effects?
Biocollagenina contains both collagen sourced from fish and soy lecithin. Therefore, it is not recommended for people who are allergic to these foodstuffs. There are no other known side effects.
Does Biocollagenina contain gluten?
No, as with all ESI supplements, Biocollagenina does not contain gluten.
